Past tenders/awarded procurements

Monday 22 December 2008

This contracts list contains details of contracts awarded by the Food Standards Agency following a formal procurement process and those used by the FSA but awarded by other public sector bodies.

The list contains details of those contracts notified to the FSA’s procurement team. In the past, the procurement team were not always involved in contracts at values below £50,000. However, from now on all procurement should be notified to the procurement team unless a corporate or other approved framework is being used. Therefore, the list should be more complete as time goes on.

Research requirements advertised and awarded using the Research Requirements Document can be found by clicking on the link below.

Explanatory Note

Framework contracts

Framework contracts are those where the precise detail of the requirement is not known at the time the contract is awarded, but where the scope of the requirement, terms and conditions and operational details are agreed so that orders can be placed as and when requirements arise. Examples are those for stationery and travel, but there can also be frameworks for a wider range of services. For example, FSA has awarded various framework contracts for assistance with nutrition requirements.

Many government departments and other public sector bodies have a similar range of requirements for example for temporary staff, archiving, mobile phones, IT support and publicity. To meet these, larger government departments and the Office of Government Commerce set up framework contracts that are available for use across government. As a smaller government department, the FSA makes use of a number of these to ensure good value for money.

Estimated value column

For framework contracts, values are typically those of spend in the year before the contract was awarded, or a best estimate if any changes are anticipated for the immediate future. As time goes on, these may reflect current spend less accurately.

For some other long term contracts, values are based on a programme of work for the first year after award. As requirements develop during a contract's life, again these may also become less accurate.
