Disability Equality Scheme

The FSA has published an improved Disability Equality Scheme. This explains how we are going to build on our work to promote equality for disabled people up to the end of 2009.

Our scheme includes details about how information provided by disabled people has been used to improve our initial DES, which was published in 2006. It also includes an updated three-year action plan which shows the steps we will take as an employer and when fulfilling our functions as a Government department.

As a public authority, the FSA has a duty to promote equality for disabled people under the Disability Discrimination Act 2005.

As part of the consultation carried out in early 2007, we funded social research to obtain disabled people’s views on the issues that they experience around food. A report on this research is available at the link below.

The Meat Hygiene Service, which is an executive agency of the FSA, has developed its own Unified Diversity Strategy. More details are available at the link below.
