Task Force on Publication of Information

In February 2007, the Food Standards Agency Board agreed to establish a task force to advise it on one aspect of the publication of information.

The terms of reference of the task force are:

'To advise the Board of the Food Standards Agency on criteria and other considerations that might be applied consistently by the FSA to decisions on whether to publish or otherwise release any information received from or relating to food companies and premises, food products, local authority regulatory services, or other relevant bodies.'

Background

The Agency acknowledges the need to maintain its open and transparent approach. It also acknowledges that, as an unelected regulator, it is most effective when it operates by consent. Openness allows stakeholders to make reasoned judgements on the extent to which the Agency demonstrates the characteristics of fairness, competence and efficiency that underpin public confidence and stakeholder trust in any regulator and its decisions.
